Hutt Science is pleased to offer the next round of free Virtual Scholarship Workshops in Terms 2 and 3 to all students intending to sit Scholarship exams in 2020. Teachers are also warmly invited to participate. 

Please ensure before registering that you are able to attend on the day/time allocated and that you are enrolled at a school within the Greater Wellington Region. (Sessions will not be recorded)

Session 1: Physics - Wednesday 24th June 4pm-5.30pm

Facilitator: David Housden

David is Head of Physics at St Bernard’s College and highly regarded as an innovative teacher of Senior Physics. He is well known as an author of Physics Learning Workbooks and is sought after as a presenter for Physics Scholarship Workshops around the country.

This second session for 2020 will involve working through the Scholarship problems presented at the last session (these can be made available to those who did not attend the first workshop) with support from the facilitator.

Session 2: Chemistry - Wednesday 1st July 4pm -5.30pm

Facilitator: Suzanne Boniface     

Suzanne coordinates First year Chemistry Programmes at VUW and has a particular interest in students transitioning from High School to University. She has run Chemistry Scholarship Workshops for both students and teachers for the past 14 years, and has been involved in writing Year 12 and 13 Chemistry Study Guides and Workbooks.

Session 3: Biology - Wednesday 29th July 4pm - 5.30pm

Facilitator: Thom Adam

Thom is the Engagement Co-ordinator for the Science Faculty at VUW. He has also been an educator for the Sustainability Trust, the Wellington Zoo, and the Otago Museum. 

In this session students will apply their understanding of biological concepts and prepare essay plans on current research, presented by Victoria University of Wellington postgraduate students. This session will look at human impacts on the movement of native fish and the spread of Kauri dieback disease.
